Arthur Bert Gawlik Sr., 81, of Cuero passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2024. He was born June 30, 1942 in Cuero to Jerome and Ruby Baker Gawlik. At the age of 17, Bert joined the United States Air Force where he would begin his career as an aircraft jet fighter mechanic. He had many stories to tell about his time in the service, but his most treasured stories were having the honor of being the jet mechanic for Chuck Yeager and having Neil Armstrong as his C.O. He married Barbara Lynn Kubala on September 9, 2009 (9/9/09) at 9:00 AM in Refugio County. Bert was an all around hard working, handy dandy MAN. He worked in the oilfield for thirty years as well as being a carpenter and mechanic. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, hunting and helping others.

He is survived by his wife of fourteen years, Barbara; daughters, Cindy Torres and Wendy Gawlik; sons, Arthur B. Gawlik Jr. and Walter J. Gawlik; sisters, Florence Mayhew and Elaine Aldrige; grandchildren, Brittany Cooke, Torri Orosco, Lane Crosby, Logan Gawlik and Hailee Gawlik and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Walter Gawlik and Jerome Gawlik.

A Committal Service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, 11:00 AM at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery, 9974 IH 37 Access Rd. (Exit 9) Corpus Christi, TX 78410.
