Cuero Chamber to Host “Taco About Business” Mixer

To encourage network- ing for Chamber members this spring, The Cuero Chamber of Commerce is hosting a mixer at Cuero Country Club (in the Grille) on Wednesday, May 8 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the theme “Taco About Business” Chamber Mixer. “Join us for our second mixer of 2024, Taco About Business, on Wednesday, May 8th at the Cuero Country Club,” said Angie Cuellar, Cuero Chamber Executive Director. “Mix and mingle as you enjoy festive food in line with the theme, enter to win raffle prizes and have fun while making valuable connections with other chamber members.” Cuellar shared that these have been well attended events and attendees are sure to have fun, great networking and enjoy drinks and tacos at the Cuero Country Club Grille.

May is Monarch Friendly Month which the City of Cuero celebrates by encouraging our citizens to plant pollinator plants and butterfly friendly plants such as salvias, purple coneflowers, and milkweeds. If you’ve created a monarch friendly garden to help these beauties on their 2000 mile migration from Mexico to Canada and right through Cuero, stop by the City Hall and pick up a sign saying ‘Monarch Friendly’. The Monarch population has declined by 80% in the last 20 years according to Center for Biological Diversity.

Take heed of ‘Move Over or Slow Down’

Mere feet from speeding traffic across the state, thousands of Texas law enforcement personnel, first responders and roadside workers are often separated from fast-moving vehicles by only stripes, cones or barrels. Tragically, many of these officers and workers are killed in crashes every year on the job, which is why TxDOT’s “Be Safe. Drive Smart” campaign is calling on Texas drivers to keep roadside workers safe by remembering to “Move Over or Slow Down.”

Retired teachers socialize, plan

The DeWitt County Retired School Personnel met on April 23 at Taqueria Jalisco in Cuero for their last meeting of the year, a social, and a planning session for the next year. President Sandra Tate called the meeting to order. Sandra, Linda Hemphil, and Leslie Ahrens reported on the State Retired Teachers Association meeting in Corpus Christi where more than 800 retired teachers attended. Tim Lee, state RTA director, announced a possible reduction in the TRS Advantage Plan Replacement premium made possible by lucrative TRS investments. Judy Faulkner presented a budget for the 2024-25 year, and members made suggestions for programs next year. The DWCRSPA will present a $1,000 scholarship at the spring awards assembly of the recipient, who will be a county student announced at a later date. This scholarship is funded largely by an in house silent auction held at the initial gathering of the next school year and by donations.
